FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Every new and amazing adventure has questions to be solved. Here, you’ll find answers to our frequently asked questions. If you need additional information, please feel free to contact us at info@kawsayballoons.com

1Do I need to book a ride in advance?
Yes, our adventures are exclusive and we have restricted space inside the basket. If you are ready to enjoy this ride, we recommend you book as soon as possible.
2When is the best time to ride a hot air balloon in Ecuador?
All year round! Due to its location right on the equator, Ecuador has no marked seasons. The temperature is stable throughout the year, so there are no significant changes throughout the year. Keep in mind that there is a rainier and a dryer season (depending on the area of the country you are in). If for any reason, the conditions for your flight are not ideal, we will reschedule your flight.
3Why riding in a hot air balloon can be perceived as expensive?
Each balloon has a 700-hour lifespan, so on each ride, the balloon loses considerable value. A significant amount of fuel is required for each ride. Also, our logistics include transportation, wages, and insurance for eight people. We make sure that everything is in optimal conditions for your safety and the success and reputation of Kawsay Balloons. All this implies high operational costs, but we guarantee you will have an unforgettable adventure in equatorial skies!
4Are there any restrictions?
Yes, there are. Kasay Balloons does not transport children under the age of 7. There is no upper age limit; however, passengers must be able to move easily, be fit to ride and be prepared for an adventure. Balloon flights are not suitable for pregnant women, people with mobility or health problems (heart conditions, brittle bones, neck, or back). Passengers must be able to bend on their knees, hold onto the rope handles with both hands during takeoff and landing, and be able to get on and off the basket by themselves. Individual passenger weight is calculated at an average of 80 kgs.
5What should I wear or bring?
We recommend wearing a jacket, trousers, and a windbreaker. If you are sensitive to cold weather, gloves and a warm hat can be very useful. Please note that rides take place early in the morning, therefore you could experience cold temperatures. Footwear must be comfortable (it is recommended not to wear heels). No backpacks or bags are permitted onboard the balloon.
6Do you provide pick-up service from Quito, Otavalo, Ibarra, Cotacachi, or other cities?
Yes, we do. Please do note that this must be arranged in advance and has additional values.
7Does riding a hot air balloon make you dizzy?
Vertigo disappears when there is no reference to the ground. When floating in the air, with very subtle movements, passengers feel safe at all times. At the beginning of the adventure, you might experience anxiety, so just look at the horizon, relax, and let all negative feelings go away.
